Influencing Factors in Estimation of Leaf Angle Distribution of an Individual Tree from Terrestrial Laser Scanning Data

چکیده
Leaf angle distribution (LAD) is an important attribute of forest canopy architecture and affects the solar radiation regime within canopy. Terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) has been increasingly used in LAD estimation. The point clouds data suffer from occlusion effect, which leads to incomplete depends on measurement strategies such as number scans scanner location. Evaluating these factors understand how improve LAD, still lacking. Here, we introduce easy way estimating using open source software. Importantly, influence effect was evaluated by combining proposed complete (CPCs) with simulated 3D tree models Aspen, Pin Oak White Oak. We analyzed effects density, height G-function. Results show that: (1) CPC can be evaluate TLS-based normal vector reconstruction accuracy without effect; (2) slightly affected method greatly density effect. higher (with a points per unit leaf area 0.2 cm?2 27 tested), better result is; (3) performance more sensitive location than scans. Increasing improves estimation, not seriously considered previous studies. It worth noting that relatively tall trees severe deserves further attention study.

متن کاملCorrection of Intensity Incidence Angle Effect in Terrestrial Laser Scanning
In this article, we have studied the incidence angle effect on Terrestrial Laser Scanning (TLS) intensity. In previous tests, it has been found that the backscattered intensity of an object affects the incidence angle effect. We made additional experiments to investigate the potential mixing of distance and incidence angle effects and the role of surface parameters such as object grain size and...

Laser scanning methodology allows to reconstruct the metric characteristics of objects at different LOD (Level Of Detail) providing spatially dense points clouds. In particular, the terrestrial application carried out in the last years have demonstrated the potentialities of the methodology useful in many different sectors. This tecnique has been used also for the “Cavallo ligneo” of the “Palaz...
متن کاملDetermining leaf area index and leafy tree roughness using terrestrial laser scanning
[1] Vegetation roughness, and more specifically forest roughness, is a necessary component in better defining flood dynamics both in the sense of changes in river catchment characteristics and the dynamics of forest changes and management. Extracting roughness parameters from riparian forests can be a complicated process involving different components for different required scales and flow dept...
